What to expect during your lactation consultation
-
This includes assessing latch, milk transfer, and for in home consultations, a pre and post feeding weight. For babies feeding with bottles, their behavior and feeding mechanics/patterns will be assessed.
-
This is dependent upon the nature of the consult, but the assessment includes assessing the breasts and chest, mental health screening, oral examination of baby to assess function and for the presence of oral restrictions (tongue, lip, and cheek ties), and infant reflexes.
-
This includes any relevant assessment findings, recommendations, and educational resources to help you navigate the concern that you have. This is collaborative effort between me and your family. Referrals to any applicable providers along with a written report is also included.
-
You will be given clear guidance on when and how to follow up with me to monitor your progress, ask any quick questions you may have, or adjusting the care plan, as needed.
